South African-American actress Charlize Theron was born in Benoni. She was brought up on her parents’ farm in the proximity of Johannesburg. At 16 she became a model and moved to Italy. A year later, Theron and her mother moved to New York. When she was 19, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she started her acting career.
Since 1995 Charlize Theron has starred in numerous A-list productions and in 2003 she won the Academy Award for her performance in “Monster”, where she played the role of serial killer Aileen Wuornos. She is also a UN Messenger of Peace.
