Carl Gustav Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist, and was also the founder of the field of analytical psychotherapy. Although controversial, his work has had a great impact on psychiatry, philosophy, religious studies, and various other fields.
Jung was a very introverted child, who, as a result of an accident developed fainting spells which prevented him from his studies. Upon hearing his father express fears that he may never be able to support himself, Jung began refocusing on his academics.
Jung developed the concepts of introversion and extroversion. He befriended Sigmund Freud who heavily influenced his interest in the unconscious mind. Later, he split with Freud’s theories due to their heavy emphasis on the impact of sex on human behavior. He developed his own theory of analytical psychotherapy, which focuses on the concept of ‘individuation’.
