Rand Paul was born in 1963 in Pennsylvania. He became involved in politics in 1994. That same year he founded Kentucky Taxpayers United. The organization was a watchdog group that tracked taxation and spending in Kentucky until it was dissolved in 2000.
He ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 and attracted a small but influential following which helped him win the US Senate seat for Kentucky in 2010. He is the first US Senator to serve alongside a parent. His father is Ron Paul – a 2012 Republican presidential candidate.
