Rabindranath Tagore was born on the 7th of May 1861. He was a Bengali polymath who is famous for reshaping his region’s literature and music. Tagore was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913.
He introduced new prose and verse forms, as well as the use of colloquial language into Bengali literature. This helped free it from traditional models based on classical Sanskrit. Tagore was highly influential in introducing the best of Indian culture to the West and vice versa. He is regarded as the most famous creative artist of modern South Asia. Tagore died on the 7th of August 1941.
