Henry Adams was an American historian and member of the Adams political family. He is descended from two US Presidents.
As a young man, he worked as secretary to his father, Charles Francis Adams, Lincoln’s ambassador in London. He became a much appreciated political journalist who entertained America’s foremost intellectuals at his homes in Washington and Boston.
His memoirs were published after his death. The book is entitled “The Education of Henry Adams” and won the Pulitzer Prize. It also went on to be named by The Modern Library as the top English-language nonfiction book of the twentieth century.
