Douglas Coupland is a Canadian writer and artist. He was born in Germany on a Canadian military base. Although he has received widespread recognition as a novelist, he is also a professional artist.
His writing career began when he was working as a sculptor. Malcolm Parry, a newspaper editor, was impressed by a postcard Doug had written, therefore Doug was asked to write a piece for him on an art dealer.
He has published a wide variety of works including novels, non-fiction books, short stories, dramatic works and screenplays. His first novel Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture became a bestseller worldwide and popularized phrases like Generation X and McJob.
