Colin Powell was born in New York. He is a US statesman and a retired four-star general. Powell served as the 65th US Secretary of State between 2001 and 2005. He made headlines by becoming the first African American to be appointed to that position.
Even though he has retired from public service, Powell remains continues to speak out on political topics. He openly criticized the Bush administration on several occasions. Powell’s organizational talent and pragmatic outlook were much admired qualities that helped him occupy key government advisory roles.
