Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth England. Over the course of his writing career, he wrote the beloved classic novels Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations.
Dickens came to fame in 1836 with serial publication of The Pickwick Papers. He was regarded as the celebrity of the moment. He has been praised by fellow writers, such as Leo Tolstoy and George Orwell. Dickens died on the 9th of June 1870, because of a stroke. His final novel remained unfinished.
