Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, aka Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, is a scientist, engineer and former President of India. He led a group of scientists to design and develop a number of missiles such as Aakash, Prithvi and Agni. Due to his contributions, he is referred to as the ‘Missile Man of India&rsquo.

He is an Aeronautical Engineer and was heavily involved in the development and launch of India’s very first indigenous satellite.

He has received numerous awards including the highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna. Over 30 universities worldwide have given him honorary doctorates. Dr. Abdul Kalam is a vegetarian. He stays away from alcohol and has taken a vow of celibacy.
