Oliver Wendell Holmes was born on August 29th 1809. He was an American physician, poet and writer. Regarded by his colleagues as one of the most prominent writers of the 19th century, Holmes is considered a member of the Fireside Poets. His most famous prose work is the "Breakfast-Table" series. He is also recognized as an important medical reformer.
Many of his works were published in “The Atlantic Monthly” – a magazine that he named. For his literary achievements and other accomplishments, he was awarded numerous honorary degrees from universities around the world. He died on October 7th 1894.
