Helen Keller was a renowned social activist and perhaps the most famous handicapped person in modern history. She was left blind and deaf at a very early age but managed to educate herself and became the first blind and deaf person in the US to receive a college degree.
She was a very committed social activist, being a founding member of the ACLU, as well as staunch supporter of women’s right to vote and the right to birth control.
Helen was also an accomplished writer with numerous articles, speeches and essays to her credit, as well as over a dozen books.
