George Washington was born in West more land County Virginia. He served as a general and commander-in-chief of the colonial armies during the American Revolution. After the War of Independence he became the first president of the United States of America and served in his post from 1789 to 1797.
Washington was not only considered a military and revolutionary hero, but a man of great personal integrity. He was very appreciated by his contemporaries who praised his deep sense of duty, honor and patriotism. He always insisted he was dispensable, asserting that the cause of liberty was larger than any single individual.
