Franz Kafka was a German writer who gained fame for writing short stories and novels. He actually gained fame after his death, when his work was published by his friend Max Brod. His best novel was ‘The Trial’ which was published a year after his passing. His most successful short story was, ‘The Metamorphosis’.
He published many successful short stories, but none of his novels were published during his lifetime. He suffered from many health issues, most notably depression, stress, anxiety, migraines and insomnia.
From 1906 till 1922, he worked as an insurance officer. He was compelled to take retirement due to tuberculosis that he had contracted in 1917. He was forty at the time of his passing in 1924.
