Arthur Schopenhauer was a very influential German philosopher from the 18th and 19th century. He was deeply influenced by eastern philosophies and the Hindu scriptures, particularly, the Upanishds. He strongly believed that “truth was recognized by the sages of India”. He presented these views in his best known work Die Welt als Wille und Vorstellung (The World as Will and Representation) arguing that our world as a collective, is seeking satisfaction to fulfill its dissatisfied will.
Schopenhauer influenced many luminaries including Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Fried rich Nietzsche, Erwin Schrodinger, Carl Jung, Leo Tolstoy, Richard Wagner, Otto Rank, Thomas Mann etc.
