Andy Warhol was born on the 6th of August 6 1928 in Pittsburgh. He was a highly successful magazine and advertisement illustrator. This is how he became one of the leading artists of the 60s pop art movements. Warhol ventured into a wide variety of art forms, such as performance art, video installations and writing.
Warhol's work satirized and celebrated materiality and celebrity – all at the same time. His focus on consumer goods and pop-culture icons, along with his taste for money and fame are the main characteristics of the lifestyle he chose for himself. He died on the 22nd of February 1987 in New York.
